To make a wood handle, draw out your shapes and cut these out of a sheet of Perspex. When you lay the Perspex template on your piece of wood you can see the grain beneath, to get the best from your wood. Draw around the template and cut out your handle.
The thickness of the wood needs to be about 1 inch (25mm). The top of the handle 1 1/8 inch (25mm) deep. What you are looking for is an oval section along the top of the handle and 1 inch (25mm) square where the handle joins the shank, with a nice even taper on the nose. Using a pencil draw a pencil line around the sides of the handle and the top and bottom, this is your centre line.

Finish all the handle from the heel to the tip of the nose, leaving the heel to the stick square. Using a 13mm drill bit, drill a hole 1 1/2 to 2 inches [38 – 50mms] deep to take the dowel. (Refer to Dowel Joint)
